Polishing is achieved through a sequential process of using discs with increasingly finer grit sizes:

Grit Range	Effect on Surface	Purpose
Coarse (50 – 200)	Heavy grinding, leaves a rough surface.	Removes deep scratches, heavy damage, lippage (unevenness), and prepares the surface.
Medium (400 – 800)	Honing, leaves a dull to satin shine.	Removes moderate scratches left by the coarse pads and marks the initial step of the polishing process.
Fine (1500 – 3000)	Polishing, leaves a high shine.	Focuses on removing very light imperfections and creating a mirror-like gloss.
Buff (Buff/Final)	Super fine polishing.	Used as a final step on some materials to maximize the mirror finish.
